Our Seconds are US made vinyl coated polyester woven mesh fabrics made in the USA. We are frequently asked what are “Seconds” and what is the difference between "First" and "Seconds" quality?
 
In order for a fabric to be classified as “First” quality , the rolls must meet stringent quality requirements for color, weave, coating, and appearance. For the fabrics we offer, a typical industry standard for "First" quality is considered to be 3 defects or less and/or 1 splice or less per roll.  Rolls that do not meet this requirement are classified as “Second” quality.  Specifically, we describe our, "Seconds" as:

• Fabric that doesn't meet stringent quality requirements for color, weave, coating, or appearance;  

• Dispositioned by the producing mill as “Seconds” - the reason for this is not shared externally;

• Material that still has intrinsic value can be used in other applications or geographical locations for a variety of applications;

• Since the producing mill doesn’t desire to operate in those markets, Seconds are sold at a discount instead of disposed;

• While there is no guarantee, typical scrap rates are around 15%. This varies with application and skill of the fabricator;

• Defects are often minor and difficult to notice;

• Length of rolls are highly variable with <50% of rolls being the standard length for that product;

• More likely to have handling damage due to differences in packaging and storage practices, including the length of time between production and use;

• May or may not have any identifying information, labels, or reason for disposition;

• ALWAYS sold on a first come first served basis, “as-is”, without warrant and no commitment with regards to future availability.
